This 66 years young man lost all his teeth due to severe periodontal (gum and bone) disease and desired a set of complete dentures with the best material option. We started with a thorough evaluation of his edentulous ridges which were well-rounded and satisfactorily healed. We explained to him all the available material options along with pros and cons.
They selected titanium material for their upper denture high-impact acrylic for their lower denture.

Before

After (Extraoral)
Complete denture fabrication requires multiple steps in 4-5 sittings:
Primary impression: We initially record the anatomy and extent of their ridges
Final impression: This is the most important step which involves border moulding where we shape the impression material by functional manipulation of oral tissues. This step is responsible for retention of their future dentures.
Jaw relation to record articulation (bite) of upper and lower jaw along with establishment of aesthetics, phonetics, vertical dimension of future denture
Trial step: The patient tries a set of dentures fabricated on temporary bases, evaluates aesthetics and phonetics to their satisfaction - if needed, final adjustments can be made on the spot as per patient's preference. An informed consent is taken to proceed with final acrylisation of denture.
Denture delivery: A polished complete denture is delivered to the patient and post-operative guidance and maintenance instructions are given to the patient
Recall: The patient reports after at least 24 hours and we evaluate any tenderness or pressure points in a particular area and if needed, slightly adjust (on the spot) the undersurface of the denture.
Thereafter the patient was able to comfortably use their set of dentures.
Why titanium metal over acrylic?
Advantages of metal denture base over conventional acrylic dentures:
• Feels more natural to your palate by better adapting to tissues
• Improves taste due to better thermal conductivity
• Thinner, stronger and more durable foundation
• Causes less tissue changes underneath and reduces plaque build-up
Among metal denture bases, the patient chose titanium for its added value:
• Lighter weight, which feels more comfortable and secure - Titanium has a lower density than gold
• Excellent biocompatibility - this is why it's also used for dental implants
• Outstanding corrosion resistance and mechanical properties
• Hypoallergenic
